Dr. Rama Mani is a transformative performance artist and integral educator-activist passionate about catalysing humanity’s creative power to envision and enact our optimal shared future. Rama received the Visionary Leadership Lifetime Achievement Award from the Visioneers International Network (Canada) in 2020, the Excellence in Leadership Award of the Global Thinkers Forum (UK) in 2018, the Peter Becker Peace Prize (Germany) in 2013. She will receive the Maja Koene Prize for Peace and Harmony in India in February 2023.
Rama is the Co-Founder, with her husband, Professor Alexander Schieffer, of Home for Humanity, a trans-cultural movement of emerging and established integral leaders, organizations and places on all continents with a shared vision and commitment to transform our divided world into a ‘home on earth’ for all life. It is co-chaired by Jean Houston, and Youssef Mahmoud (former USG of the UN).
Rama is the Founder of Theatre of Transformation Academy, which catalyses the creative power of humanity to heal our past and re-story our shared future. As Convenor of the Enacting Global Transformation at the University of Oxford, she developed this integral artform and methodology based on her 30+ years of experience in global governance, transformative justice, peacebuilding and strategic leadership, across war-torn countries and crisis areas on all continents. Since 2014, Rama has been invited worldwide to offer her cathartic, tailor-made Theatre of Transformation performances, performative keynotes, leadership seminars and academic courses, empowering global leaders and grassroots women and youth activists alike.
Rama is a founding Councilor of the World Future Council and a Fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science.
Previously, Rama Co-Founded Rising Women Rising World with Jean Houston and Scilla Elworthy. Rama was Executive Director of the International Centre for Ethnic Studies in Sri Lanka. She was Director of the Global Peace and Security Course at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy. She was Oxfam GB’s Africa Strategy Manager and Senior External Relations Officer to the Commission on Global Governance.
Rama has a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Cambridge, UK, an M.A. in International Affairs from Johns Hopkins University, USA, and a B.A. from Bryn Mawr College USA in Politics and French Literature.
Rama is a French national and an Overseas Citizen of India, where she grew up.
