Mark Gerzon
Main profile
Mark Gerzon is one of the key architects of the field of global leadership and an experienced facilitator in high-conflict zones. He has advised a wide variety of organizations including the US Congress, multinational corporations, and UNDP. The author of numerous books, including Leading Through Conflict (Harvard Business School Press), he is currently serving as UN advisor on leadership in conflict-torn countries in Africa and Asia.
As President of Mediators Foundation, which he founded over twenty years ago, Mark is working closely with several projects that also advance the field of global citizenship. He is currently the director of the Conflict Transformation Collaborative, a network of peace-builders that seeks to mobilize and link this community worldwide to shift the paradigm from military power to nonviolent conflict transformation.
He is currently designing an interactive, awareness-raising workshop ‘The Global Citizen Journey’ based on his most recent book, Global Citizens (Ebury Press: London). The Journey is a rite of passage designed to shift participants' identities from narrower, more parochial perspectives (national, religious, ethnic, etc.) to a wider, more integral worldview.
On a personal level, he is working on a memoir entitled Waking Up, which seeks to bring concepts such as "enlightenment" and "awareness" down to the level of ordinary life (work, relationships, sexuality, politics, etc.).
A resident of Boulder Colorado, he is the father of three sons and five grandchildren.
To meet the tough global, integrated challenges of today, we urgently need to raise the level of our collective leadership. We need to increase both our global intelligence (mind) and our planetary empathy (heart) in order to a give birth to a just and sustainable civilization.
